The third
report on corporate governance in South Africa became necessary because
of the new Companies Act no. 71 of 2008 (‘the Act’) and changes in
international governance trends. This Report, referred to as King III,
was compiled by the King Committee with the help of the King
subcommittees.

Honourable Speaker, the year 2010 marks two memorable events
that will continue to define the history of our country and our people. This
year marks the occasion that the icon of our people, Isithwalandwe Seaparankwe
Rolihlahla Nelson Mandela, was released from prison. We, the people of the Free
State, would like to join the rest of the country in honouring Madiba as a true
legend, patriot and time-tested leader of all the people of South Africa and the
world.

Die verskil tussen korrup en komplimentêr
Met die afkondiging van die Wet op die Voorkoming en Bestryding
van Korrupsie in 2004, het die Wetgewer onder meer beoog om ‘n stokkie te steek
voor die onregmatige verkryging van persoonlike welvaart ten koste van die
integriteit van demokratiese instellings, ekonomiese groei, etiese waardes en
die algemene regspleging. Sedertien egter het korrupsie een van die mees
besproke onderwerpe in die media geword met die fokus op die verhouding tussen
staatsamptenary as koper en private besigheid as verkoper wat Suid-Afrika tot op
die hoogste vlak geraak het.
Artikel 3 van die nuwe Wet omskryf korrupsie as misdaad en verwys in breë na
iemand wie ‘n ander persoon ‘n vorm van gratifikasie offer, belowe of gee, om
daardeur laasgenoemde te beïnvloed om onregmatig te handel of om iemand anders
so te laat handel.

Die Menslike kant van Personeelinkorting
Volgens ʼn toonaangewende koerant toon die jongste data van
Statistiek SA dat die werkloosheidskoersselfs hoër as 23.5% kan wees. Daar word
verder berig dat amper 180 000 werksgeleenthede tussen Januarie en Maart vanjaar
vir die ekonomie verlore gegaan het. Met hierdie tendens en die huidige
wêreldwye ekonomiese afswaai, moet baie organisasies op indiensnemingskoste
besnoei ten einde te oorleef.

Soos in verlede jaar se Voorsittersverslag genoem is, was dit
ons doelwit om gedurende die eerste jaar van van ons bestaan, AHI Bloemfontein
te vestig as ʼn organisasie wat waarde kan toevoeg tot die sakegemeenskap en wat
respek sal afdwing. Een van ons doelwitte vir die tweede bestaansjaar was om te
verseker dat AHI Bloemfontein deel sal vorm van die besluitnemings proses in die
stad wanneer plaaslike regering belangrike besluite neem. Ons het wel vordering
gemaak in die proses, maar nie soos wat ons graag sou wou nie.
